IFBCON – Trends, Styles & Inspirations
This week was the much-anticipated Independent Fashion Bloggers Conference – Otherwise known as IFBCON – Held in New York City right before the start of the Spring 2013 Fashion Week.
“Looking back, what made this IFBCON special was how authentic & original everyone and every panel was. True representation of the community.” – IFB

The words above uttered by IFB couldn’t be truer, this was an amazing & educational experience. I mentioned here that I wanted to share all of the fabulous fashion that I got a chance to witness at the conference, so share I will.

The personal style of the fashion bloggers of IFBCON was utterly diverse, ranging from hippie inspired fringe and layers, to rock n’ roll studs and spikes, to mix-masters who seamlessly paired patterns, stripes, polka dots, or animal prints.
Needless to say, this conference was a people watching dream!
Heels, stacked bracelets, and oversized bags were pervasive, but aside from that there were so many trends and styles that I’m almost at a loss for how to describe it all to you. Over-the-shoulder bags, spiked bracelets, fun tennis shoes, daytime sequins, camo, maxi & midi length skirts, pleats, round sunglasses, printed & brocade pants, peplum dresses, geometric prints, pajama-inspired separates – There was a veritable sea of beautiful colors, great textures, fun prints, and interesting fabrics.
Nearly as fascinating as the fashion bloggers themselves were the panelists and speakers that we were all there to see. Top bloggers, buyers, writers, brands, publishers, tech wizards, journalists, stylists, social media experts, authors, models – Basically, the best in the biz all there offering us advice, inspiration, motivation, and a vision of a possible future for ourselves.

So in summary, I was lucky enough to spend two days with some of the greatest fashion-minded men and women in the industry. People of all ages, nationalities, races, and backgrounds who have one very important thing in common – An all-consuming passion for all things fashionable!

Hippie 2012 Breakdown
Coachella 2012 is days away and it has been the topic de jour online the past few weeks. What should you pack, what should you wear, which shows should you see, where should you stay… Well, with all of this hippie-lovin’ going on I thought I’d share some inspiration and suggestions for those of you lucky enough to be heading to Southern California for the festivities.

Accessories:
Vintage and hippie-inspired accessories have always been my favorite part of this type of style, from headbands and feathered earrings to scarves, layered necklaces, and fringe fringe fringe.
If you needa little bit of jewelry inspiration than look no further than The Sartorialist, who captured a gorgeous pair of wrap around fringed earrings on the streets of Paris. You don’t even need to have your ears pierced to rock these bad boys.
Low Luv Jewelry, created by model Erin Wasson, includes pendants, rings, and bracelets. Or you can shop Nicole Richie’s jewelry line, House of Harlow 1960, which is well-known and adored by those who admire the starlet’s personal style. Shoes:
Shoes are incredibly important when you’re pulling together a look. The perfect finishing touch. The cherry on top. Whether you want to go a little Western, keep them casual and comfortable, or go for full on glamour, there’s the perfect shoe or boot for EVERY occasion.

Since its expected to be warm and there’s lots of standing, walking, and dancing involved in a Coachella weekend choices like sandals, moccasins, and flat boots are both comfortable and fun.

Looks of the Week
Suit up! Nothing screams fall like a 70's inspired suit - check out Justyna from Chameleonic's version w/ a vest & hoop earrings.
For some reason, when I think of animal prints I think of in-your-face prints the likes of which Roberto Cavalli would be lost without. I forget that there are more subtle and low-key ways to wear these prints.
All I have to say is that if you're FIFTY SIX YEARS OLD and you look better in a dress than the rail-thin model wearing it on the runway, you are doing something so so right. And statues should be erected in your honor. I'm just saying.
Zoe Saldana looked adorably retro at the Trevor Project event in Hollywood. I love the ankle strap heels with the bright, geometric mini, much more fun than a LBD.
I love the stripes in this skirt, they're almost Egyptian in their color scheme. Too bad it's so hard to pull off these high-waisted skirts, sigh, if only we could all be supermodels!
Zoe Saldana also stunned at the Children’s Defense Fund Awards in Giambattista Valli. The combination of a ladylike skirt and a fun, floaty white top is picture perfect.
Miss Kailey may be a food blogger, but there's no denying the girl knows how to throw together a cute outfit. I adore the cropped jacket with the gold buttons, tres chic!
Amber Heard stunned in white hot Alessandra Rich at the Trevor Live benefit. I especially love the lace details and the back of this dress!
Hippie Love
As Hippie Chic is one of the most highly viewed posts since MCLV started last spring, I decided to do a follow-up post to celebrate the fabulous 60’s & 70’s inspired looks that are all the rage this fall.
Now follow me down the rabbit hole and let’s revisit some of our favorite hippies of all times… (Cue the Jefferson Airplane soundtrack)
Boho-Chic:
Boho is short for Bohemian, which is defined as: “a person, as an artist or writer, who lives and acts free of regard for conventional rules and practices. ” The boho styles of the 60’s were more than just a fashion statement, they were an escape for women from the confinement of the clothes and social norms prevalent in the 50’s. They were free, loose and created a new style that trickles down to us today.

Mod: The other fashion sub-culture of the 60’s was known as Mod, short for Modernist, which originated in London and was heavily influenced by the music of the time and the all night dance clubs that started appearing.

Rock n’ Roll Hippie: The hippie trend of the 1970’s was a continuation of the 60’s Boho style, with some serious rock star additions, and was incredibly popular with both the men and women of the psychedelic rock era.

Disco Era: Drugs, sex & rock n’ roll! 70’s disco was all about music, dancing all night at clubs and was heavily influenced by the smaller factions that it was composed of (gays and minorities like African-Americans & Latinos). If you visualize one thing when you hear the word “disco,” it should be STUDIO 54!
Original Disco icons: YSL, Bianca Jaggar, Ziggy Stardust (aka David Bowe) & John Travolta
Characterizations of the style: Platforms, sequins, glitter, wrap dresses, hotpants, le Smoking Suit, high-waisted jeans, lamé suits for men & women
Modern day equivalents: It’s still ALLLLL about Iman. Yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Fashion Show Love: Balmain
What to buy for fall: Diane Von Furstenburg wrap dresses & anything by Halston Heritage. Fine, those were the easy answers. But honestly, I’m loving all of the disco-inspired separates out there, that way you can inject a little glam into your wardrobe without risking overload (and please, for the love of all that is holy, only resort to this if it’s a Halloween costume. Thank you. From all of us.)

Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala 2011
This year’s MET Costume Gala was held in honor of the late Alexander McQueen, and a more fitting tribute to the talented and creative genius I can hardly imagine. Many stars honored him and slinked down the red carpet in his designs, but there were gorgeous designs from other houses present as well.
I must admit, this is one of my favorite events each year. To me it represents creativity unleashed, a colorful and raucous celebration of the art we worship every day but pay little hede to, a blazing testament to an organic and ever-changing industry that evolves on a daily basis.
And with themes like superheroes and supermodels, who can blame me for loving it?
The vast array of dresses this year was impressive, from barely there frocks coated in sequins and feathers, to sweeping and draping and shimmering silks to flowing gowns in deep jewel tones. Below are some of the looks that I could hardly wait to share with you.
There were scene-stealing beauties whose gowns could have appeared framed on the walls of the museum as well as walking majestically through it.

There were also a sea of minimalism-inspired women who kept things simple, without sacrificing an ounce of glamour.
