Welcome To The Red Carpet…
Each Spring we get to witness the fabulous journey from red carpet to red carpet that the celebrities embark on that leads to the Oscars. Have I seen all the movies being nominated for & winning awards? Nope. Not even close. Do you know which gowns & frocks I love and which designers are killing it? Oh. Yes.
Here are some of the highlights of late!
{I like this because it’s a one-of-a-kind take on a standard Little Black Dress and the answer to what to wear to a cocktail party.}
{Cute. Eye-catching. Age appropriate. What more could you ask for from a young starlet?}
{I adore a man in a suit, but with an endless parade of red carpets during awards season black and grey suit after black and grey suit gets a bit… Dreary. Three cheers for a man who mixing things up and likes to try great colors & textures. Precisely as the face of Burberry should!}
{Flowy and white can frequently bomb on the red carpet. Too loose, too casual, too flower child… But this one is perfection. It’s all about the belt!}
{Another black & gold number that killed it on the red carpet. Dramatic. Unique. Flattering. Perfect!}
{Finding the perfect jewel toned gown isn’t easy and I can’t imagine a more beautifully colored dress than this one. And that silver collar? Swoon!}
{Prints & patterns are such a breath of fresh air on the red carpet in a sea of princess-y frocks and this metallic black & silver number was especially stunning. And she wisely left the statement jewelry at home.}
{Another fabulous white gown curtsey of Ralph Lauren. Lovely silhouette and a flattering hue, but those earrings were what really sold me. Just stunning!}
{I LOVE Kerry Washington and she’s had some killer looks during her Django Unchained press tour – But this Giles gown is one of my favorites. It’s totally unique while still looking like it was made for her. Brava!}
And finally… Some Golden Globe goodness:
{I love this dress! There was lots of back-and-forth on this one from the commentators, but I thought it was fun and a breath of fresh air!}
{Striking. Just striking.}
{I love the drama here – The deep oxblood color, the neckline, the train… There’s a lot going on, but it works for her.}
{I LOVE pants on the red carpet. And I love women in tuxedos. This is simple but totally chic and timeless. Well done Amy, well done.}
{Wow. It’s eye-catching and dramatic, but still age appropriate and utterly flattering. Gorgeous dress!, I love the gold embellishments.}
{This peach hue suits Miss Jessica to a T. It’s classic but the styling, jewelry & bag take it up a notch.}
{I love black & white on the red carpet. It’s sharp and eye-catching. And Julianne Moore knows JUST how to pull off this killer Tom Ford gown.}
{Flawless. The gown is a stunning color, suits her figure perfectly, and I adore the double straps, low back, and sheer stripe. Perfection!}
{Drama Drama Drama. When you want sophisticated, high fashion drama and glamour you know where to go – Alexander McQueen!}
{I’m not usually a fan of sheer hemlines but I just love this sparkly Miu Miu number. It really stood out last night – Both on the red carpet and on stage – And it looks great on her.}
{And she’s back! I used to love everything that Miss Kidman wore on the red carpet but all the white lately hasn’t been my favorite – This however is killer. It’s busy, but she’s just the woman to pull it off!}
{Such a standout dress last night – This is the definitely of an eye-catching look!}
In my humble opinion there was a winning tie here… Jessica Alba in Oscar de la Renta {styled by the fabulous Brad Goreski} and Taylor Swift in Donna Karan Atelier. Both looked utterly striking and were styled to perfection. Well done to everyone though, there were virtually no disasters at this stylish event.
My only complaint? Where was Keira Knightley??? Her Chanel gowns for the Anna Karenina red carpets have been divine – I was dying to see what she was going to wear to the Golden Globes. Sob!

Looks of the Week
Happy Monday!
I hope that everyone had a great weekend. I’ll tell you all about my amazing weekend in Sonoma tomorrow, in the meantime here are some great style pictures to jumpstart your Monday and get you in the mood for a fashionable week.

J'ADORE!!! I love the mixing of colors, patterns, fabrics, and textures here. It's simple in its composition, but the end result is a complex, well-put together, chic as hell look!

I love love love this look! The shorts and chic and fun, and they look great paired with the brightly patterned top. The floral necklace and the adorable day clutch are the perfect final touches. Absolutely great!

One of my favorite articles of clothing is a great dress. Something well-made, classic, stylish. Something that you can wear again and again, year after year. This is that kind of dress!

I love this delicate, girly, vintage-inspired lace dress. The contrasting collar is perfect and I love that she paired glittery flats with it rather than heels, it works well with the mod style.
Tribeca Film Festival 2012:

I love love love this photo! Karlie looks dazzling in Chanel and being flanked by the adorable Brant kids is perfect.

I like the glamorous but laid-back cool of both of these looks. I love little white dresses for Spring but I'm a sucker for stripes so I'm going to have to say that the look on the right is my favorite.

Lily Kwong looks stunning in Chanel, I love the black & white dress and her choice of accessories is right on - the pops of green and red are perfect.

The PERFECT little white dress courtesy of Reiss. A flattering fit and the perfect color against her skin - Camilla Belle looks phenomenal here!

Great Sass & Bide dress! It almost looks like Peter Pilotto, doesn't it? I like it paired with a basic leather jacket, very cute.
The 2012 White House Correspondents’ Dinner:

Kerry Washington decided to show us all the power of color for this event! A simple, streamlined look that popped beautifully against her skin and flaunted her gorgeous figure. Well done!

Anna Paquin's dress was dramatic and interesting for basic black, but what really stood out to me were her gorgeous earrings, bracelets, and clutch. Well done on the accessorizing. And her makeup looks phenomenal.

Kate Hudson was anything but a wall flower in floor-length purple sequins. Wow. Way to make a statement!

The top of this gown makes it anything but boring black. Paired with her beautiful retro waves and showstopping turquoise earrings Reese was quite the vision.

Elizabeth Banks has been kicking some booty on the red carpet lately during her Hunger Games touring and she continued her sartorial success in this Antonio Berardi gown. Now that's how to rock a peplum!

I've been LOVING shorts looks lately and this was is great. A little rock n' roll and glam, but still laid back and summery. Gorgeous!
Tomorrow is the first day of May and I’m planning to participate in Definitely RA’s Mission: Put Together – 2012, which is another fashion challenge like the one hosted by Freckles In April earlier this year that I really enjoyed, so expect some fun pictures in the next week or so.
Back tomorrow with some great pictures from my weekend!
Fashion Inspiration
Fashion isn’t just about what you wear, what goes on your body. It’s truly an expression of yourself that extends far beyond your clothes.
“Fashion is everything. Art, music, furniture design, graphic design, hair, makeup, architecture, the way cars look – all those things go together to make a moment in time.” – Tom Ford
And just as fashion isn’t limited to the cloth that we wrap ourselves in, inspiration can also be found in many forms.
I began clipping pictures from magazines as a pre-adolescent, not so much fashion photos, just pictures that caught my eye, things that I found eye-catching or memorable or mesmerizing.
As I became interested in fashion however, my clipping habits became more focused. And while I don’t confine myself to photographs of clothing and accessories, I’ve found that my love of fashion gives this activity more direction and purpose. I’ve found that even without context, pictures can serve a creative function.
They excite. They encourage. They inspire.
The beauty and artistry captured by a photographer can be moving, regardless of the medium. Advertisements, promotional materials, editorials, art, home decor…
I’ve found that by keeping these images available to myself I can stay out of a fashion rut. They provide new ideas and inspiration, get my creative juices flowing, and motivate me to grow and evolved. I highly recommend creating and maintaining a Look Book, a collection of images that make you smile, that invigorate you, that make you push your boundaries.
Whether it’s a physical book filled with clippings like mine are, or Boards on Pinterest, this is a great creative and inspirational outlet. Keeping pictures of looks that you like, styles that call to you, photos that take your breath away, can all be great tools to keep your approach to fashion fresh and interesting.
