Happy Wednesday!
Ready for some low-key and fun red carpet attire? You can always count on an MTV event to bring out the stars, and for those stars to bring out some interesting, eye-catching fashion.

Not sure how to wear a cocktail dress? Here’s an official How To. Follow it to the letter.

This is a great look for a summer show. Bright and fun!

I’m not sure if this is actually a dress or not, but I like the separates feel to the look. It’s summery and sweet, perfect for a Nickelodeon star!

Perhaps a slimmer fit would have shown off her killer figure better, but that doesn’t keep it from being a great, stand-out look. Her personal style has definitely been evolving over the last few months, exactly as it should be for her age!

Fresh, young, and perfect for the event. The mixing of colors and patterns and the zipper detailing make it a great choice. Also, love her haircut, very flattering.

Sort of space-age looking, but really cute. It’s fun and interesting, and suits her build really well.

With The Great Gatsby coming out soon I’m sure that these beautiful 20’s style dresses will continue to make the rounds. This is a great choice for her coloring, she looks beautiful.

One of the brilliant events at the Cannes Film Festival each year is the amFAR Gala. This is a great fashion event and many Hollywood stars, models, fashion insiders, designers, bloggers, and photographers who don’t attend the Film Festival itself will make the trip to Cannes for this party alone.

This Elie Saab gown is about glitz and glamour rather than dreamy romance as with many of his creations that we see on the red carpet. And Nina couldn’t have chosen a more dramatic or eye-catching gown, it suited her to perfection. Definitely one of my favorite gowns of the evening.

This space-age inspired gown from the Versace Spring 2012 Couture Collection is absolutely amazing. When else would you be able to pull off a gown like this other than the MET Ball?
You can see the original gown here on Style.com worn by model Ros Georgiou on the Milan runway last year.

Interesting backs are my favorite part of a dress and this Emilio Pucci gown did not disappoint. The beading and sheer detailing on the front, high boatneck neckline, and draped back made this a gorgeous gorgeous look.

I loved the delicate fabric, square neckline and buttoned-up back on Kylie’s red siren gown. These details made it really unique and memorable.

Karolina’s gold Roberto Cavalli gown was intricate and beautiful, featuring sheer fabric, sequins, and an adorable matching jacket.

Drama Drama Drama. If you watch the video below you’ll see how amazing, and scandalous, this gown looks in motion. GIven her public persona and her function at the event, I couldn’t have picked a better gown for her.

Diane “the Queen of Cannes” Kruger wore another gorgeous Chanel creation, this time choosing a knee-length retro style number. Not my favorite look of hers from the Festival but eye-catching without a doubt.

Louis Vuitton seemed to be Kirsten’s go-to designer for all of the Cannes events this year, and this was another triumph. The covered up neckline, dramatic floral belt, and sweet tiers kept things interesting.

This white Versace column gown is anything but minimalist with the buckled straps across the back and shimmering silver detailing.

This year was even more special than in the past because Miss Carine Roitfeld hosted the “Perfect Black Wardrobe” Fashion Show where 25 top models walked the runway in black gowns, dresses, and suits submitted by the world’s top designers and design houses – from Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel to Ralph Lauren and Mr. Giambattista Valli. You can even watch some clips from this amazing runway show here from FashionTV.

The Spring 2012 Couture shows began this past Monday and made me long desperately for warmer weather and a chance to show some skin.
As usual Christian Dior was a ladylike affaire, with prim and proper silhouettes taking on a racy feel with see through fabrics. The show was primarily black and white with the occasional splash of lipstick red or bright purple. Prints like houndstooth, checks, plaid and stripes appeared next to florals and fabrics ranged from heavy tweeds and wools to leather to sheer chiffon and lace. All paired with peep & round-toed pumps and opera-length gloves.

How sweet is this? Maud Welzen was a 50's housewife in this traditional, Mad Men inspired knee-length, belted floral frock.

Lee Hye Jung's gown was intricate and complex, seemingly a retro bathing suit with a floor-length sheer skirt with paneling details and a cape draped over one side. All in royal purple. Perhaps not red-carpet reading, but striking nonetheless.
Dying to see more of the decadent gowns Dior showed? Tom & Lorenzo have a look by look breakdown
here.
Giambattista Valli‘s second couture collection took on a hint of old school glamour, especially visible in the dramatic floral and patterned gowns. There were pants and sumptuous outerwear as well, but the emphasis was definitely on knee-length dresses and red carpet ready gowns.

This dress is everything the collection embodied - Black & white, exquisite details, sheer panels, embroidery, sequins and a buttoned-up feel with an edge.
The Spring 2012 Atelier Versace show only featured a handful of looks, but they were dramatic and celebrity ready. Lace, sequins and rosette encrusted gowns, retro bathing suit inspired one piece looks and gold-plated gladiator heels.

A skin-tight icy blue-gray strapless gown with sheer lacy panels was one of the standout looks. Can't you imagine this on the red carpet? I bet Rosie would look just as great in it as Daria Strokous.

Lindsey Wixson was pure Versace in a neon yellow, stapless maillot with metallic detailing and armored heels.
Tom & Lorenzo didn’t love the Atelier Versace collection but
predict that Lady Gaga will wear these pieces with pride!
Giorgio Armani served up quite a show for his Armani Prive line’s Spring 2012 Couture collection. The first thing that struck me when I looked through the photos for this collection were the combination of fabrics and colors. Gold mesh, silver and green satin, navy knits, neon animal skins, midnight blue and olive-green sequins, Easter basket colored feathers and geometric prints on virtually everything. It was really a spectacular visual feast.

A striking pantsuit in varying shades of green and gold. The mesh-style fabrics made each piece incredibly distinct.
Want more pictures? FabSugar has a detailed look by look breakdown
here.
The Chanel show was an absolute dream to watch. The color scheme ranged from blue-grey to powder blue to royal blue to midnight blue. The dropped waists and pocket-adorned dresses were my favorite – they were a chic, modern twist on retro favorites and the wide boat-neck collars were both fun and flattering. The outerwear was divine: floor-length button-up coats & suits, Victorian-style embroidered jackets over gowns, cropped bolleros with puffed sleeves… All done in beautiful fabrics – tweed, silk, satin, sequins, chiffon, and endless embroidery.

I can't decide what I like more, the 20's-inspired petal design of the skirt, the sequin-topped tights or the sheer black cap-sleeves.

The opening look was my favorite. The color is beautiful and wearable, the pockets & elongated neckline are cute additions and the multi-strap heels are the ideal finishing touch.

This sheath-like silhouette is anything but boring with the wide collar and rows of pockets. And of course the best shoes I've seen from the shows so far.

Lust! A floor length, double-breasted, wide-necked coat with slouchy pockets done in a brilliant blue? I'll take three!
Ready to see all of the gowns that will be showing up on red carpets the world over in the next few weeks? Welcome to Elie Saab. Celebrity outfitter extraordinaire! If I had to describe this collection in one word it would be dreamy. The pale, creamy pastels, the subtle shine and sequins, the intricate detailing, floral embroidery, the use of sheer fabrics and lace to add depth… You have to give him credit, he knows what his clients want and he continually gives it to them – Beautiful, flattering, uncomplicated gowns that make them look elegant and chic.

So gorgeous! This one will be perfect for a tall, statuesque woman. Charlize Theron or Uma Thurman would look phenomenal.

This has all the beauty and detailing of a couture gown, but it's fresh and young, it would be the ideal choice for one of the younger ladies on the red carpet these days - Hailee Steinfeld or Chloe Moretz perhaps.

The wide neck of this powder blue confection helps to create a graceful neckline, while the slight trumpet flare of the skirt elongates the figure.

Oh, in the market for a wedding dress? Elie's got you covered - Just hand over your life's savings. 🙂
Compared to the light and airy collections presented by most of the fashion houses, Riccardo Tisci” Givenchy Haute Couture collection was dark, dramatic and filled with angst. The small show (10 looks) was organized into three sets – crocodile, crystal and black & white. The looks were complex and sophisticated as Tisci’s work usually is, but what I loved most was the softness of the low backs on the gowns, exposing the slender backs of his models.
And the strangest addition? Giant, and I mean giant, nose rings…

The crystal and sequin encrusted straps and the opulence and intricacies of the fabric were complimented beautifully with the loose draping of the sleeves and back of the dress.

Natasha Poly's art deco embellished loose white gown was divine. The floral crystal arrangements at the waist and the sequin-adorned sleeves were beautiful but I couldn't take my eyes off of the gorgeous collar.

Crocodile indeed! The armor-like breastplate was an interesting juxtaposition against the delicate embroidery and lace of the sleeves and skirt of this gown.
While many designers have found inspiration in the work of famous artists, Jean Paul Gaultier’s latest muse may have still come as something of a surprise to some – Amy Winehouse. Unlikely, yes and vaguely surreal for Couture, but stunning down to the last look as always. The hair, the makeup, the stylish… Dramatic, iconic and well done. My favorite part was Karlie Kloss’s orange beehive & silk pajama look, which she worked like nobody’s business.

Absolutely divine! Navy pinstripes mixed with giant burnished orange and navy polka dots and an orange beehive? Only Karlie could take this up another level to sultry.

That collar! Those delicate puff sleeves! The minimal slits at the ankles! All paired with a gorgeous cuff bracelet, snake-skin clutch, chandelier earrings and a cotton candy blue wig. It should look like a caricature but somehow it works.
Tom & Lorenzo has conflicting opinions of this show, which can you read
here.
The Valentino Haute Couture show was truly amazing, the collection composed primarily of exquisitely detailed floral dresses was made up of paper-thin layers of silk, lace, embroidery, tulle, chiffon and the delicate outerwear of heavier velvet and brocades. All worn with dainty, patterned court shoes.

One of the few pants looks this was no less extraordinary in its composition with lace and ribbon detailing, white-on-white embroidery and brocades mixed in.

The artistry on these gowns is truly phenomenal, the sheer lace embroidered with white flowers, the layers upon layers of virtually insubstaintial fabric that make up the floating skirts.
I’ll be back with the front row and street style looks from the 2012 Couture shows tomorrow or Tuesday!

Another week full of red carpet events to check out. Enjoy. Judge. 🙂 Movie openings, awards shows, gala dinners… All with a little something worth talking about.
Without further ado.
34th Annual Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C.

It's hard to pull off Marchesa, its hard to pull off pink, and it's really really hard to pull off floor-length pink. That being said, Emily Blunt looked phenomenal in this Marchesa gown though, such an amazing color on her.
P.S. Mrs. Krasinski stunned in another fabulous pink gown with her adorable husband on the red carpet here.

This dress is flattering, interesting and chic. Well done SJP, well done. P.S. I love your hair!
American Country Awards in Las Vegas, Nevada:

Shawna & Keifer Thompson - Her: LOVE the dress, it's unique and flattering, and styled really well. J'dore her jewelry! Him: I have no words. Do you think they saw each other before they got to the red carpet???

Ashley Monroe (far left) looked great, her floral cocktail dress, metallic pumps and big curls were absolutely perfect for a fun, country-flavored event. Wish there was a better picture of her clutch though!

Josh Turner - While this isn't exactly your everyday look, I can't imagine anything better for the ACAs. Boots? Check. Visible belt buckle? Check. Worn jeans? Check. Show-stopping smile? Um... Check!
New Year’s Eve Premiere in Hollywood, California:

Harry Shum Jr. is my favorite of the Glee kids on the red carpet so I'm always excited to see what he's wearing. I like this sweater vest & blazer combo, its dressy enough to show that he's put forth some effort, but the jeans keep it low-key.

Michelle Pfeiffer looked stunning in purple Dolce & Gabbana, I especially like the choices for her multicolored folderover clutch and suede pumps.

I feel like all we've been seeing from the Elie Saab Fall 2011 collection are the pale dressed & gowns so I was excited to see one of the darker hues deployed on the red carpet. Hilary looks great, really well put together and classy.
2012 Pirelli Calendar Gala Dinner in New York City:

Rinko Kikuchi, Malgosia Bela, Natasha Poly, Mario Sorrenti, Isabeli Fontana, Joan Smalls, Margareth Made & Julianne Moore

Margareth Made was quite beautiful in a strapless navy column with a thigh high slit.

The night's most stunning look was definitely Joan Smalls, who looked phenomenal in a draping white gown and gold jewelry.
Valentino Virtual Museum in New York City:

Of all the dresses worn to the Valentino event, this would have been the one I'd have picked. I love shift dresses, I love the fun, glitzy fabric and I've been mad for those Valentino pumps ALL season.

It's incredibly hard to pull off an all white look, but leave it to fashion badass China Chow to make a fun poof dress and white strappy sandals look tres chic.

Izabel Goulart looked beautiful in floor-length navy Valentino. I'm glad that she wore her hair up so that you can focus on the great details of this dress: the subtle polka dots, bow and the layers of multi-patterned fabric in the skirt.

I like the demure hemline of Claire Danes's dress when combined with the outstanding color and fun details.
P.S. I finally got around to creating a
Pinterest account. Check it out!

“Too much may not be enough.” These words, uttered by Karl Lagerfeld after the show, seem to sum it up perfectly.
– The backdrop? Hotel du Cap, in Antibes on the French Riviera, one of the most exclusive and expensive hotels in the world.
– The cast? All the big names from the past few seasons, Abbey Lee, Siri Tollerod, Jac, Natasha Poly, Karlie Kloss, Stella Tennant, Karolina Kurkova and Lily Donaldson, to name a few.
– The jewels? Real, darling. Of course.
– The front row? A-list fashionistas only, Blake Lively, Rachel Bilson, Alexa Chung, Vanessa Paradis, Clemence Posey, Laura Bailey and Poppy Delevigne among them.
The Chanel Resort 2012 collection began with slim, smart suits in yellow, lilac and cream, followed by black and white swimwear, cover-ups and dresses, and finally summery, hippie frocks and gowns.

While the wearability of the shin-guard inspired thong sandals is questionable, I thought that overall the show was lovely. In another life, far, far away, I can just see myself walking lazily along the water in one of these black and white swim suits, a gauzy white wrap thrown over my shoulder, or swirling regally around a ballroom in one of the crystal encrusted gowns. Right.
And the fashion didn’t stop there, off the runway the stars watched Karl’s masterpieces in their own stylish ensembles.

Clemence Posey looked adorable in a sunny dress (reminiscent of the blue one worn by Emma Roberts at the fall Chanel show) and gold heels.

Who wears short shorts? Too cute Rachel Bilson, who donned micro leather shorts, a boyfriend blazer and crocheted white top.

Blake Lively looked gorgeous and summery in a chic black and white Chanel ensemble, including a tiny skirt and sequined blazer.
Overall it was an elegant, sumptuous affaire. Come on Karl, did my invitation get lost in the mail?

This year’s MET Costume Gala was held in honor of the late Alexander McQueen, and a more fitting tribute to the talented and creative genius I can hardly imagine. Many stars honored him and slinked down the red carpet in his designs, but there were gorgeous designs from other houses present as well.
I must admit, this is one of my favorite events each year. To me it represents creativity unleashed, a colorful and raucous celebration of the art we worship every day but pay little hede to, a blazing testament to an organic and ever-changing industry that evolves on a daily basis.
And with themes like superheroes and supermodels, who can blame me for loving it?
The vast array of dresses this year was impressive, from barely there frocks coated in sequins and feathers, to sweeping and draping and shimmering silks to flowing gowns in deep jewel tones. Below are some of the looks that I could hardly wait to share with you.
There were scene-stealing beauties whose gowns could have appeared framed on the walls of the museum as well as walking majestically through it.

{Mariacarla Boscono in Givenchy Haute Couture}

{Blake Lively in dreamy Chanel Haute Couture – LOVE the starfish cuff!}
There were also a sea of minimalism-inspired women who kept things simple, without sacrificing an ounce of glamour.

{Dianna Agron in Michael Kors. Adore the Wonder Woman cuffs and dramatic neckline.}

{Gwyneth Paltrow was sleek and sexy in backless Stella McCartney}

{It takes an Amazonian supermodel to pull of a dramatic train like this flowing red one}

{Natasha Poly was a bronzed goddess in a pale Alexander Wang dress}
There were the sequined stunners who dazzled us with their sparkle and shine-encrusted gowns.

{Karen Elson}

{Iman WORKED this gold Stella McCartney jumpsuit. Can you believe this woman is in her mid-fifties?}

{Angela Lindvall & Karlie Kloss}
And finally, there were those daring enough to rock Alexander McQueen’s innovative and oftentimes unusual designs.

{Hilary Rhoda}

{Anna Dello Russo}

{Coco Rocha}

What was your favorite look from this sumptuous event? Would you have worn Alexander McQueen to the MET or did one of the other designers strike your fancy?
I saved a picture of this vintage Ungaro gown years ago and an event like this could be the ideal time to break out a unique and highly detailed frock like this.

{Sienna Miller}
I love the combination of the long sleeves and the low, daring back. Now tell me… What’s your Cinderella fantasy?
