Today’s Looks of the Week round-up will be focusing on the chic Winter trend of wearing white – Whether it’s a head-to-toe look or just a fabulous piece or accessories. Male or female, Summer or Winter, white can be hard to pull off, it takes some serious style chops to make it work well.

{This fashion blogger featured on Candice Lake’s website makes Winer White look effortless – The look is somewhat simple, but oh-so-striking!}

{Very stylish white cable knit sweater and I love how the white is mirrored in the brown & white striped socks. It was a great choice to go with brown instead of basic black & white too.}

{This is a killer look – A little bit rock n’ roll and a little bit biker chick. I love the white exposed zipper jacket and the buckle ankle boots.}

{This black & white sweater is totally chic and I couldn’t think of a cuter way to pair it than these fabulous leopard print pants – They’re unique, unexpected, and totally fabulous.}

{This menswear inspired black & white look is fabulous – Chic and timeless with a great androgynous twist.}

{These layered pieces in shades of cream and tan come together into a fabulous look – The leather leggings, chunky sweater, and collared jacket look great together!}

{This fabulous white coat from last year is one of my favorites – It’s classic but the silhouette gives it a fun twist.}

{And as always The Sartorialist captures some killer looks from the streets – From chic sweaters to gorgeous maxi skirts to great head-to-toe white looks.}
Have you had time to try out the Winter White trend yet this chilly Winter season? Which of the looks above inspires you the most?

Health & Fitness:

Packing lunch during the week is a great option to save money and make sure that you’re getting a healthy, nutritious meal mid-day to keep you going. I like to do some work in the kitchen during the weekends to prepare for the week {Sunday Prep}, you can also get some killer tips from Choosing Raw – Monday’s Lunchbox.
Thinking about jumping on the treadmill or elliptical for some cardio and neglecting the machines and weight racks are you gym? Think again! I’m a huge advocate of not only changing up your gym routine on a regular basis but of foregoing machine cardio for walking and weight training. If you don’t believe m just read this piece from Natalie Jill Fitness: Only WEIGHT and INTENSITY Will Change Your Body – You HAVE to lift HEAVY if You Want to Lean Out and Change Your Body!

Fitting in a workout is a MUST during the hectic holiday season – It reduces stress, gives you some much-needed alone time, produces endorphins, and keeps you healthy & fit so you can enjoy the holiday festivities with your friends and family. Regardless of whether you have an hour or 15 minutes available, or if you even have time to make it to the gym – Make time!
Fashion:
I love the old Hollywood, film noir feel of killer black & white photographs. The subjects somehow always manage to appear chic and timeless, regardless of the year, the pose, the style of their clothes… I just can’t get enough and neither can A Fashion Friend – It’s Better In Black & White.

Have you ever been tempted to run off to Paris so that you can live a fashionable, glamorous life? If the answer is yes, you probably shouldn’t click on these links because you will most likely run off to Paris to live a fashionable, glamorous life.
As you may know – I adore stripes – Whether they’re the traditional nautical variety for Spring or demure pinstripes for the office. So why not take this fabulous print into the Fall season as well? Harper’s Bazaar definitely agrees – Shop the Street Style Look: Summer’s Stripes for Fall.
Are you a jeans girl? There are so many varieties this day in age there are almost endless choices when you head into a store and start to peruse their denim department. 70’s flare, wide-leg, cropped, skinny, cut-off, distressed, boyfriend, boot cut… Check out Love Me Jeans for some serious denim inspiration and worship – What’s your favorite pair?

We’ve all had the rule “No White After Labor Day” repeated ad nauseam over the years, but is this a rule for our grandmothers and not for our generation? Well The Man Repeller is making quite the argument against this rule with her fabulous photographs from Nolita – Accent In White.

With all the exciting details to share about my recent trip to New York City and all of the work I’m putting in on the New York Fashion Week Spring 2013 collection reviews I very nearly forgot that Hollywood hasn’t stopped churning out events in the meantime. This post will cover some of the great looks from the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, 69th Venice Film Festival, 2012 Toronto International Film Festival, and various movie photocalls and premiere red carpets.
Now show us what you’ve got ladies!

Killing it! Miss Pinto decided to prove that all cut-outs aren’t tacky in this fierce embellished black & gold gown by Alexander McQueen on the red carpet in Venice.

Wow. Just wow. Who knew pink leather and gold studs could look so great?

Chic ladylike daywear. Love the black & white dress, and I adore her hair!

Absolutely stunning. I really like the addition of the thin little gold belt, helps bring the look together.

How killer is this Balmain dress? It’s a fun, fresh look that’s stunning but totally age-appropriate.

Another fun, flirty, colorful cocktail-like red carpet look was from Emma Watson who looked tres adorable in a lacy peplum Erdem number in Toronto.

I absolutely adore this look. Head-to-toe I think she looks great. It’s high fashion and retro fabulous, and a great look for her red carpet personality.

Apparently I’m loving matching short suits these days because I audibly gasped at both of these colorful retro-inspired looks.

Wow. This is such a departure from her usual fashion-foward, attention grabbing looks that I did a double take. It’s still stunning and dramatic despite the minimalism though, maybe this will her next fashion phase?

Apparently the VMAs were all about Summer white… And after Labor Day! Rebels! I love the pairing of this textured, long-sleeved mini dress with the killer lace up sandals. Well done. As usual. 🙂

Another killer all-white look from Miss Taylor Swift. Perhaps not the most youthful look, but it’s chic and classy as hell. Power to you girl!

Miss Keira’s been busy killing it on the red carpet lately. She chooses gowns that not only suit her coloring really well, but extenuate and flatter her frame and silhouette. Well done.

Swoon. Definitely the best look of the bunch. I especially love the belt. She couldn’t look more classic, more put together, or more gorgeous. The only downside of this look is that she may never surpass it. Time to retire!

Which look is your favorite? If you had the chance to grace a red carpet, would you play it safe to avoid landing on a Worst Dressed List or would you take some risks?

In my opinion men’s fashion can be more classic and long-standing than its female counterpart, the cuts are more enduring and the underlying style more deeply rooted. This means putting your money into well made, classic pieces is the best way to approach your closet, since you’ll be able to wear them for years to come.
So what, do you ask, should today’s modern man have in his closet?
- Once you’re out of school, a good suit is a must. Interviews, weddings, funerals, work/charity events, and perhaps even the occasional date (think Valentine’s Day/Anniversary) can all call for a suit. Black, navy or charcoal are all a good choices, though I must admit that I’m a sucker for a great pinstripe suit. I’m also a fan of a classic three-piece suit, I love how they still manage to look clean and put together even with the jacket off and the sleeves rolled up.

-
Button-downs are extremely versatile and have a place in any well-rounded wardrobe. Pair with slacks or a suit for (semi) formal affaires, with jeans and dress shoes for Friday night cocktails or untucked over well-worn shorts with loafers (sans socks) for summertime. Like I said, versatile.

So invest! Stripes, solids, pastels, black, white, slim fit, logo, patterned, linen, cotton… Whatever suits your build, coloring, and lifestyle, it’s time to put your money where your shirt is! 🙂
- T-Shirts are somewhat of a touchy subject for me. While basic shirts can be a great staple for a man’s closet, they should not all be graphic or novelty shirts, nor should they be riddled with holes and look like they belong in a rag pile. I don’t care how many memories they hold! (Does that sound like a line I’ve used before? Cuz is it is…)

Depending on your build and lifestyle, different styles will suit you best. For his downtime my brother loves vintage rock shirts, like the one above, and with his build (tall & muscular but lean) they suit him perfectly. My dad favors the Robert Barakett shirts that Nordstrom carries because they’re soft with a relaxed fit and can keep up with him whether he’s walking around downtown or gardening (oh, the joys of retirement). And while he may respectfully disagree, I have to say that in my humble opinion my boyfriend looks the best in the Lacoste V-Neck Jersey Tees.
So take your significant other, sister, mom or friend shopping with you and try on some different styles. To each their own!
- Polo shirts are a great middle ground between a t-shirt and a button down. They can add a bit of structure to a look while retaining an overall low-key air. Throw one over jeans with loafers or pair with shorts and flip-flips. You can even pop that collar if you’re in the mood.

Like t-shirts and button downs, these come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Once you’ve found a brand that fits you perfectly, you can order online to your heart’s desire, but you should definitely put in the in-store research before getting mouse happy.
- A complete closet should contain a few types of bottoms, namely slacks, jeans and shorts, if applicable to your climate. At least one pair of black slacks are a requirement, however depending on how often you dress up you should consider investing in multiple pairs. Charcoal, navy and a neutral color like khaki or tan are right behind black in importance. Wool, cashmere and linen for dressing up and seersucker, cotton and linen blends for play.

When you hit the store for any pants shopping be sure to take the shoes you’ll most frequently wear with them. A good pair of slacks or jeans can be expensive, so you don’t want to buy them too long and ruin them in a matter of weeks by walking all over the hems. Also, keep in mind the tailoring is a great option, it’s fairly inexpensive and can make your pant last much longer.
- I adore accessories for men, you gentlemen prefer to buy one or two great ones and leave it at that (none of the female shoe insanity!) A black and a brown belt, same for shoes, a pair of sunglasses, a wallet and a large silver, gold or leather band watch and you’re done. Easy peasy! (Obviously, this is not applicable to rappers)

The key for mens accessories is finding quality, classic pieces that can be worn season after season. Unfortunately this may require trips to multiple stores. I know – I’m sorry! Take the time though, as much as it takes, and you wont regret it.

Now before I leave you to your shopping adventures, I’d like to make an introduction.
If you’ve never heard of The Sartorialist, let me introduce you. Boys, meet Scott Schuman, the brilliant and fashionable photographer behind the wildly popular street style website The Sartorialist. These days Mr. Schuman focuses his energies shooting photos of the unique and fashionable men & women he sees on the streets. New York, Milan, Paris, Sydney, Buenos Aires, London, Rome, Beijing… If you have any questions about pocket squares, popped collars, sleeve length, outerwear, hats, color combinations or men’s jewelry, he is your man!
One of my favorite men that Scott sometimes features after his trips to Milan is this oh-so-stylish Italian man

Love the aviator sunglasses. Love the v-neck shirts. Love the gold watch. Take notes kids, this is how it’s done!
