St. Patty’s Day Isn’t Just For The Irish…
I’ve always loved St. Patrick’s Day. Always.
Partially, I’m sure, due to my Irish background and the fact that my brother’s name is Patrick. And partially due to the fact that, after Halloween, this is the second most fun holiday all year. Like with Halloween you get to act like a kid {even The Huffington Post agrees that this is a good idea}, eat great food, and thoroughly enjoy yourself. Though obviously my celebrations have changed over the years – I went from a “Kiss Me I’m Irish” pin when I was 9 to Jameson shots until 2am when I was 23. Never a good idea on a Wednesday, let me tell you. But however I’ve celebrated over the years, it’s always been a fun, memorable celebration.
To help get you in the mood and prove that anyone can love St. Patty’s Day, here are some fun ways to celebrate – From fashion to try to recipes that’ll make you drool there’s a little something for everyone.
Food:
Sweet tooth? Cupcakes & Cashmere has everything you could possibly want with her amazing Homemade Shamrock Shake.
If you’re in the mood for some savory, traditional Irish grub but want to keep things on the healthier side than check out Fat Free Vegan’s Colcannon Puffs, Skillet Shepard’s Pie, and Vegan Cabbage Rolls.
Guinness Cupcakes w/ Bailey’s Irish Cream Filling sound like the PERFECT way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day to me, but if boozy cupcakes aren’t the way to your heart, than perhaps Mint Chocolate Cupcakes are the answer.
It doesn’t get more festive than Purely Twins’s St. Patty’s Day Inspired Green Mint Marshmallows {Sugar-Free}. Cute, green, AND sugar-free? These are at the top of my Must Make list.

Spring 2013 Hair Trends
I’m fairly hopeless when it comes to creating perfect waves or mastering chic updos – A simple {and I hope stylish} ponytail or bun is my go-to for pulling my hair out of my face on a daily basis. That being said, I love to try new ‘dos and am invariably drawn to the “so easy anyone could do it” type of tutorials.
In the hopes that I’m not the only one who could use some quick & easy expert tips for hair I’d like to share some of the tutorials I’ve collected recently that guarantee you’ll have a fun new look to add to your repertoire.
My favorite hair care post of all times is this video from The Glamourai. I want her hair. And her life. 🙂 The Glamourai’s Grip It Good is the perfect video to check out if you have waves or short hair, or are a pro when it comes to using products.

Style File: Peace Love Shea in Gucci
I fell madly in love with this look during the recent New York Fashion Week shows {Bloggers Do It Better: New York Fashion Week Street Style} and immediately started counting down the minutes until I’d have time to shop for similar pieces. And while I’m sure we’d all love to pick up this stunning Gucci outfit & Alexander McQueen coat, I thought I’d try to find something a little more reasonable on the price scale for us mere mortals.
{Peace Love Shea’s La Vie En Rose}
I love the matching, brilliantly colored top and bottom in this look as well as the chic white touches here. And while this coral is stunning on her, I also just like the concept of a look with an all-over color or print.
Coral Combo:
{Slim Trouser – $39 @ Mango, Bow Blouse – $28 @ Mango}
These sweet Mango separates are a great choice – Not only do they look lovely together, they’re both great, versatile pieces in general and you’d be able to wear them all Spring.
Blue & White Floral Combo:
{Printed Cuff Pant – $119 @ Bebe & Floral Print Blazer – $139 @ Bebe}
All-over prints are definitely my Achilles heel this Spring and I absolutely love these pieces. Not only do they look fabulous together, you can easily wear each with black, white, any shade of blue, or even a bright color like purple, fuchsia, or yellow.
Talk about versatile!
White Coat:
{Left: White Coat – $79 on sale @ Dorothy Perkins & Right: Tinley Road Classic Claudine Coat – $35 on sale @ Piperlime}
I love a chic white coat – It’s just so classic. So chic. So French!
{Peace Love Shea’s La Vie En Rose}
In addition to the amazing main pieces that make up this chic look, the accessories, while understated color-wise, are actually quite high-impact as well.
Clear Clutch:
{The Ceres Clutch in Recycled Lucite – $95}
White Shoes:
{Pointed Ankle Strap Court Shoes – $44 @ Asos & Mossimo Ankle Strap Heels – $29 @ Target}
That clear clutch is perfection paired with the white heels and white coat – It all comes together to create a perfect look. I can’t wait to give this a try!

Finding fabulous new sites to enjoy is a favorite pastime of mine and I wanted to share my latest blog crush – Veblen High. I mean, seriously, with a description like this, how was I not going to become addicted?
WTF is a Veblen high? It’s a provoked state of intoxicating, stimulating, euphoria (similar to the effects of drugs/alcohol/sex) induced by the purchase of Veblen goods. Symptoms include high- feelings of relaxation, enchantment, pride, self-worth, dominance and a public display of social status.
Colorful and bold are always fun options when it comes to accessories but sometimes an outfit just screams for a neutral hued bag. Not sure where to start? Bag Snob of course – Best Beige Clutches: Caught Blushing.
If the idea of cropped pants and shorts is too shocking for you right now why not try out the boyfriend jean trend? Luckily for those of us new to this style one of my favorite bloggers, Lovely by Lucy, tackled this topic recently – How To Wear Boyfriend Jeans: Part 5.
Starting to get bored with your cold-weather looks as you’re yearning for Spring weather? Me too. But don’t despair! Stylist extraordinaire, Hilary Rushford of Dean Street Society, is here to help us stay in the mood with My Chic Winter Style Secret.
If you’re in the mood for a fun DIY project and you’re loving all the embellished pieces this Spring you should tackle Cupcakes & Cashmere’s DIY: Embellished Sunglasses ASAP! 🙂
Health & Nutrition:
My go-to pick me up in the mornings isn’t coffee or tea, it’s a green smoothie. Not only are they energizing, delicious, and filling, they’re also the ultimate recovery meal. Not sure where to start? Check out Green Thickie’s The Ultimate Guide to Green Smoothies.
When Spring rolls around I’m always thrilled by the bright new produce at the Farmers Market, but that doesn’t mean I stop craving comfort food! If you’re in the same boat try this killer appetizer and you’ll be packing nutrients & fresh ingredients into your delicious snack – “Cheezy” Roasted Tomatoes.
Gyms can be pretty pricey these days – Last week I saw a CrossFit gym that was charging clients over $200 a month! If you, and your pocketbook, aren’t up for those kinds of prices than read this Women’s Health piece – Fun (and Cheap!) New Workouts.
If you love to bake like I do finding healthier alternatives and recipes that aren’t laden with calories & fat can be challenging. Choosing vegan, gluten-free, and/or paleo-friendly recipes is my go-to move these days. Not sure what that means? The No Meat Athlete breaks it down in his Veganize and Healthify Your Baking with These 6 Steps.
Green juice is another healthy, refreshing choice when it comes to beverages. But don’t worry if you don’t have a juicer or if your city isn’t filled with juice shops {aw, I miss NYC}. Choosing Raw has the answer – How to Make Green Juice Using a Vitamix or Blender.
{Guest Post} Spring 2013 Dress Trends
As you’ve probably figured out by now – I’m a big fan of dresses. Especially in the Spring. I’ve had visions of beautifully colored and print-covered dresses dancing through my head for months now – Since the Spring 2013 collections were shown actually. Today the writer of I Wish It Were Anthropologie, But… will be sharing her Spring 2013 dress picks with us.
Enjoy!
{Left – $128 @ Anthropologie & Right – $29 @ H&M}
Here’s the thing… I love Anthropologie but I don’t love the price. This white eyelet dress from Anthropologie is simple and chic, and can easily be dressed up or dressed down. But it is already over $100 for just the dress. You’ll still need to buy the tights, shoes, and accessories! In all it’ll put you well over $200.
I found a white eyelet dress from H&M for only $29.95. With that price you can easily find the rest of the pieces to complete the outfit for under $100.oo. Giving you a $100.oo for more shopping! Who doesn’t want that!
{Left – $128 @ Anthropologie & Right – $40 @ Old Navy}
Now here is a nice coral eyelet dress that will be perfect for when it really starts to warms up this Spring! A versatile piece like this will be cute with either the boots or the flats and you can easily can add a cardigan to transform it into a work outfit. Again, choosing this Old Navy dress over the pricier Anthropologie version will give you almost $100 in savings.
You are really racking up the dough now!
{Left – $128 @ Anthropologie & Right – $30 @ Target}
This two-toned maxi dress has the same cut and color blocking style. However, the Target maxi has a pattern on the bottom and does not have pockets. Nevertheless these are quite similar style-wise and the Target dress will run roughly $100 less than the Anthropologie version.
There ya have it folks! Three amazing Spring-Summer looks, which save you $300.oo. Ready to get shopping? I sure am!
Sincerely,
Morgan Sabnekar
Blog: I Wish It Were Anthropologie, But… , Facebook, Pinterest & Twitter
Are you guys as ready for Spring and pretty Spring dresses as I am after reading that? I absolutely love both eyelet and sweet lace for Spring, and that coral color is just beautiful.

Pencil Skirt: Day-To-Night
Pencil skirts are up there with wrap dresses, trench coats, and the perfect Little Black Dress when it comes to investment pieces. They’re a Must Have regardless of whether you’re in the market for a classic black skirt or something more dramatic and eye-catching
{Shop similar pieces by clicking these hyperlinks: Pencil Skirt – BCBG, Jacket – Banana Republic, Bag – Kate Spade & Heels – Very Volatile}
Not sure what style pencil skirt is the best option for you? Check out the fabulous finds below and see which skirts best suit your personal style and pocketbook!
Classic:
{Left: Pencil Skirt in Jersey – $15 through $30 @ Asos, Center: Wool Pencil Skirt – $60 @ J.Crew & Right: Pencil Skirt – $50 @ Mango}
If you’re going for a more classic & timeless look or would like to pick a piece that’s work appropriate as well, I’d go with a classic color like black, navy, or grey. You can easily go from the office to cocktails by exchanging pumps for strappy heels, adding a chic cropped jacket, and piling on the statement jewelry.
Bold:
{Left: Emerald Pencil Skirt – $80 @ Banana Republic, Peplum Pencil Skirt – $50 @ Express & Right: Plaid Skirt – $60 @ The Limited}
These skirts are still perfect office-wear, but they’re also bold and eye-catching. Not for the faint of heart. Dress one of these brightly colored or printed skirts down for work with a tucked in button-down or party the night away in an embellished tank & fun heels.
Fun:
{Left: Tinley Road Vegan Leather Pencil Skirt – $45 on sale @ Piperlime, Center: Neon Trimmed Pencil Skirt – $20 @ Forever 21 & Right: Jessica Simpson Floral Pencil Skirt – $40 on sale @ Macys}
A leather skirt is a fun option and when styled properly can easily work for day or night. Or you can try a fun printed option to spice up a weekend look. Either way, these dramatic skirts should be the focal point of your look so keep the accessories on the minimal side to avoid overdoing it.
So tell me, what’s your pencil skirt style – Classic, Bold, or Fun?
LookMazing + Banana Republic’s Mad Men Collection
I was thrilled when Banana Republic announced that they were planning to produce another Mad Men inspired collection this season. It’s funny, I love classic, retro styles and have adored & shopped these collections in the past, but I’ve never actually seen Mad Men.
Need to remedy that ASAP.
In honor of my recent LookMazing feature {pictured above} and the fun Banana Republic pieces that I got a chance to try out, I wanted to share my favorite picks from this new collection.
{Collection Hampton-Fit Gingham Crop – $100}
These pants are perfect for Spring 2013. Perfect for daytime wear with sandals or flats, a basic tee, and a brightly colored scarf, or for nighttime with heels, a sleek tank, and some statement jewelry.
{Left: Collection Beaded Necklace – $60 & Left: Collection Line Bracelet – $50}
Speaking of statement jewelry… Loved all of the Mad Men pieces but these were my favorite. I especially like the navy + green color combination in this necklace – Really classic & chic, but with a modern twist.
{Collection Peggy Ballet Heel – $130}
I love a great pair of low-heeled pumps and the metallic embellishment on these is the perfect little touch to make these visually interesting and really stand out. You could easily wear these with a pencil skirt for work or paired with your favorite jeans & a leather jacket for a night out.
Don’t worry boys, I didn’t forget you. While the perfect suit is obviously a must have for the gentleman with style, the accessories are where you can really have fun and get creative. And Banana Republic’s Mad Men collection has some pretty darn cute extras for you to invest in!
{Left: Striped Silk Skinny Tie – $70 & Right: Straw Fedora – $50}
The navy looks great paired with both the black and the brown in these pieces and by including great striped accessories like these you’re opening up your look to incorporate additional colors.
Which pieces from this fun new collection are on your Must Have list?

Bloggers Do It Better: New York Fashion Week Street Style
In past seasons I’ve tried to include a round-up of street style shots for each of the four major Fashion Weeks so that you can see what people are wearing to the shows and events, in addition to what’s being shown on the runway. However, as I’ve gotten more and more interested in fashion and started following more and more fashion blogs, photographers, fashion magazine editors etc. I’ve realized that my favorite street style is almost always the fashion bloggers.
Their style is somehow more real. Yes, some of them are getting gifts and swag and being lent clothes, but the way that they put looks together and pair pieces from their own wardrobe, and mix high & low is just plain inspirational.
Enjoy!
{I’m having a love affaire w/ rolled pants this Winter – I love the silhouette whether it’s with heels or ankle boots}
{This Tibi suit is one of my favorite power suits of New York Fashion Week. The bold hue, the cropped pants, the unique styling from We Wore What. Perfection!}
{I’m a total color junkie during Winter – I feel like it’s a great line of defense against seasonal depression. 🙂 And nothing about this fabulous floral + yellow look makes me 100% happy!}
{Sweet, ladylike, classic. Amid all of the Fashion with a capital F during Fashion Week sometimes a look that’s just plain chic rules the day!}
{I’m a sucked for jumpsuits! I love this sapphire colored Rebecca Taylor jumpsuit paired w/ the perfect green coat and great cold-weather accessories. You can check out another one of On The Racks’s great NYFW outfits over on my IFBCON post when I was lucky enough to meet her! :)}
{One of my favorite people to follow this season was Monroe Steele of Fashion Steele NY – In addition to putting together some killer looks, like this eye-catching white ensemble, she also looked like she was having a genuinely great time at all the shows. That kind of passion is just plain contagious!}
{LA-based Peace Love Shea always brings the drama when she heads to NYC and this look was head-to-toe perfection. Unfortunately the fact that this coral ensemble was Gucci had me utterly devastated since I couldn’t run out and buy my own asap.}
{Animal prints are a great way to spice up your Winter looks and keep things sartorially interesting. This Thakoon Addition leopard print blazer & suit combo was of my favorites and I loved how the always impeccably Chriselle Lim styled her look.}
{When it comes to chic, perfectly styled looks Wendy of Wendy’s Lookbook is one of my favorites, I love the yellow & green color combination here, the statement necklace, and the timeless Givenchy Nightingale Satchel. Tres chic!}

Which of these fantastic Winter looks from New York Fashion Week was your favorite?
MCLV Style: Emerald City
Since emerald was dubbed the color of the moment I dug this top out of the back of my closet for a recent sunny Saturday. When I got this piece I was actually a blonde and while it was quite pretty then I have to say I like it even better now that I’m a redhead. 🙂
{You can shop similar pieces by clicking these hyperlinks: Emerald Top – Zara, Jeans – Forever 21, Booties – Rebecca Minkoff, Blazer – Zara, Necklace – J.Crew & Tote – Furla}
{Check out outtakes from this shoot here – Just log into Facebook to view}
I’m enjoying this trend – Emerald’s a versatile color and looks great against virtually all skin tones and hair colors {as opposed to, say, mustard yellow}. It’s also a great choice if you’re adding a “pop of color” to a look because it’s so eye-catching and bold. If you’re in the mood to explore the emerald trend than check out some of the fun pieces below:
{Left: BCBG Blouse – $89 @ Bluefly, Top Right : Carry-All Pouch – $46 @ American Apparel, Center Right: Emerald Necklace – $30 @ Bauble Bar & Bottom Right: Mossimo Cap-Toed Heel – $25 @ Target}
Another trend I’m MAD about this Spring is metallics – Specifically metallic cap-tied shoes like these Mossimo heels. Emerald + metallic = Spring perfection as far as I’m concerned!
Are you a fan of this season’s emerald trend? Have you found any pieces that you like yet for Spring 2013?

MCLV Style: Transitioning From Winter-To-Spring

After wearing the amazing gold sequined Badgley Mischka number a few weeks ago I decided to keep things a little more understated this time around and opted for this tiered black BCBG Max Azria number. But I kept the look from being too basic by pairing it w/ an orange & cheetah print clutch and a Betsey Johnson cape w/ a faux fur collar to keep me warm.
Are you a fan of black tie events? When was the last time that you wore formalwear?

Within moments of the tickets going on sale for this February’s conference I had bought the two-day pass and booked a plane ticket.
Excited, who, me?
I was lucky enough to assist the IFB team with some of the behind-the-scenes activities that help make an amazing event like this come together. Talk about a learning experience! Not only did I get to spend some time with IFB founder & The Coveted blogger Jeannine and IFB editor & Shut Up I Love That Shirt blogger Taylor Davies, I also got the chance to spend two days getting to know the other volunteers and got the opportunity to meet some of the speakers, sponsors, and panelists.
In other words – I was in heaven.
Celebrity Sightings:
While to some “celebrity sightings” might be limited to the Beyonces and Julia Roberts of the world, for us fashion lovers celebrity sightings can include our favorite bloggers and industry insiders whose work we read, Instagrams we <3, and whose photos we view daily. During IFBCON not only did I have a number of wide-eyed moments of mind blanking “omgomgomg” excitement, I also got some handshakes, hugs, and sweet words from some of my idols & unofficial mentors.
Laura Ellner of OnTheRacks – I’m a HUGE fan of On The Racks! I followed Laura’s adventures in San Francisco and while I hated to see her leave the Bay Area, I was excited for her New York City dreams to come true when she moved to the Big Apple last year. Needless to say I was worried that I’d have a fan girl moment if I got a chance to meet her. Luckily I kept my excitement under wraps when I said hello & introduced myself {nerdy happy dance} and I have to say, she’s even more stylish and striking in person than she appears online.
Aimee Song of Song of Style – Not only is Aimee stylish & beautiful, she’s also incredibly sweet. Her affiliate marketing panel was interesting & informative and she was beyond nice as she waited to go on stage and while she hung around for pictures afterwards.
{There’s a reason they’re the best – Just look at them, utterly flawless!}
Justin Livingston of Scout 16 – While IFBCON was primarily filled with female fashion bloggers there were a few proud male fashion bloggers in the crowd and quite a few speakers & panelists of the male persuasion. One of the arrivals that I was greatly anticipating was the blogger known as Scout 16 – A New York staple who showed up in fabulous shoes, moderated his panel like a pro, and was really genuine & nice if you were lucky enough to meet him.
Liz Cherkasova of Late Afternoon – Striking is the first word that comes to mind when I picture Liz’s entrance, she strode into the conference in head-to-toe brilliant pink. A shade that few mortal dare to wear, but was utter perfection on her. Her Evolution of the Industry panel may have been the last of the day but everyone was glued to their seats and hung on her every word.
Hilary Rushford of Dean Street Society – Not only do I adore her site {which I’m sad to say that I only recently discovered} but I was blown away by how inspirational & captivating she was on stage at IFBCON. And off the stage? Wow. Just wow. Beautiful & chic – Wearing the perfect little white dress with a fabulous statement necklace and a too-perfect-for-words fur shrug.
Lydia Hudgens & I SPY DIY – One of my favorite parts of the conference was the photography workshop put on by Lydia Hudgens – Photographer to some of NYC’s most popular fashion bloggers – And DIY master I Spy DIY. It was funny, easy to follow, and FILLED with great tips & ideas. I definitely have a girl crush on Miss Hudgens now! 🙂
There were SO many speakers & so much information being passed on that I’m sorry I couldn’t meet everyone and hear everything!
Volunteer Love:
I couldn’t have been happier to get a chance to get to know this group of smart, fun, talented ladies – From bloggers to photographers to fashion lovers this was a great group.
{Claire & Madison of Bare Bones: Fashion Is Dead}
{Sarah Haile of Sara Haile Photography}
{Francisca of Fancy-Francy}
{Karina of Beach & Dress}
{Destiny of Fate, Love & Destiny – Coming soon!}
{The lovely Sarah Mekhail – Blog to be launched sooooon}
And of course my partner-in-crime the lovely Brittany of The Subtle Statement who I met at IFBCON last September and spent this past week exploring New York with – From vegan restaurants in Chelsea to shopping in Soho to Barre classes in the Financial District. 🙂
{Brittany Shick of The Subtle Statement}
I can’t wait for September so that I can head back out to New York for the next conference! 🙂
My sincerest apologies for the quality of the phone pictures – There were tons of fabulous photographers there but clearly I was not one of them. If you want to see more pictures from the conference head over to my Facebook page for Day One & Day Two albums.
Looks of the Week – Cape Edition
My favorite piece this season has definitely been my fabulous Betsey Johnson faux fur-trimmed cape. I love the classic, old school glamour that a cape evokes. It goes great with jeans or over a dress, I even paired it with my favorite BCBG Max Azria floor-length gown. And clearly I’m not the only one who loves capes. So enjoy these fabulous looks!
{This whole look is just fabulous – From the plaid print on the cape to the faux fur collar she added to the killer purple heels.}
{If you’re not sure whether a full-coverage cape is the right style for you than this silhouette is perfect. A Trendy Life makes this look even more chic w/ a fabulous black, white & red dress underneath.}
{I love the wide-leg pants in this look and I couldn’t have picked better accessories – Beautiful color, perfect style.}
{I love the lux, glamorous feel of this cape. The color & embellishments are classic but she’s made the look totally unique & modern with great details & fun, one-of-a-kind pieces like the sweater.}
{The fun, printed pants in this shot are perfect with the flirty silhouette and fun studded accessories.}
{This color is just phenomenal – I adore the unique, chic shade paired with the classic silhouette. Stunning!}

Since there are so many topics & such a wide variety of information available to you I wanted to take some time to map out where you can find various things on either this blog or on social media.
{While there is some overlap, I try to make sure that each social media platform gets some individual attention each and every day}
MCLV:

The MCLV Facebook page is updated multiple times a day and in addition to notices when a new post is published, you’ll also see when new photos are uploaded {from events, fun outtakes from photo shoots, behind-the-scenes shots etc.}, I’ll also share great blogs that I’m following & you can check out some of the fashion events that are on my calendar.
Twitter:
On Twitter you’ll also get notice when a new post has been published, when new photos are added on Facebook, and when a new picture is added to Instagram, it’s also where I’ll share blog posts & news articles I’m enjoying, update you on how my days are going, share inspirational quotes, and let you know when something fun is on the horizon.
Instagram:
If you’re interested in getting a glimpse into my daily routine, how I spend my days & what’s going on in my world, Instagram is for you. I share a couple of pictures a day and try to keep things interesting in terms of the subjects – From quick snaps at the gym to get you motivated for a workout, delicious new recipes I’m trying out, books I’m reading & shots of my insane cats to pics from my shopping adventures, outfits for events, as well as DIY, home decor & design projects.
Pinterest:
I’ve been clipping pictures from magazines & making collages & pasting them into inspiration books for YEARS so I was thrilled when I discovered Pinterest. An online way to collect fantastic pictures that move & inspire me? Yes please! I update Pinterest most days and you can find a wide variety of boards to enjoy – From fashion inspiration, beauty must haves, updo’s & killer hairstyles, fabulous jewelry, and menswear must haves to home decor, delicious recipes, workout motivation, inspirational sayings, and even mood boards for specific photo shoots that I’m working on.
There are a few additional platforms that I enjoy a few times a week but don’t update as frequently – Pose, Polyvore, Chictopia, and LookMazing are all great sites though so feel free to stop by anytime for fun fashion inspiration & shopping!

MCLV Style: Anchors Away
I ran into GAP a few weeks ago for a pair of flats and as soon as I saw these cropped pants across the room I knew that they had to be mine. They’re fun and unique, and oh-so-perfect for Spring.
I mean, there’s nautical, and there’s nautical!
{You can shop similar pieces by clicking these hyperlinks: Leather Sleeved Coat – Aqua, Cropped Pants – GAP, Heeled Loafers – Tracy Reese, Top – Anne Taylor & Bag – Givenchy}

This look also make me smile because I felt like I was getting ready to head outside for a gorgeous Spring day in San Francisco. Not. “Winter, we need to talk. I love you, but I think we should see other people.”
Are you ready for Spring like I am? What’s your favorite Spring style?
I’m writing this post from chilly New York City where I’ll be attending IFBCON & getting swept up in the madness that is New York Fashion Week. If you want updates & pictures be sure to follow me!
